Strath Haven High School Lacrosse Coaching Staff

For information about our coaching staff, see the bio's below.

Jef Hewlings enters his 39th year of coaching and his 7th season as Head Coach of the Strath Haven Boys' Lacrosse program. Prior to his arrival at Strath Haven, he enjoyed head coaching stops at Malvern Prep (1983-87), Penncrest High School (1989-99), Oneonta HS (NY), where he founded the high school program (2000-06), and Emmaus High School (2008-11).

Along the way, Coach Hewlings' teams won Central League titles (with Penncrest in 1996 and 1998 and Strath Haven in 2016), Lehigh Valley Conference titles (with Emmaus, 2008-11), and participated in post-season playoffs (at Malvern, Penncrest, and Emmaus, as well as in each of the past 5 seasons at Strath Haven). His Penncrest teams advanced to the PSLA state semifinals in both 1998 and 1999, and Emmaus reached the PIAA quarterfinal round in both 2009 and 2010.The Strath Haven Panthers have advanced in the PIAA state tournament in each of the past 3 seasons and rode the class of 2018 to the program's first ever trip to the state championship game last year.

With the graduation of last year's successful senior class (led by USL's national POY and UVA bound freshman Jeffrey Conner), Hewlings sees 2019 as a bit of a transition year, especially related to the presence of strong player leadership. "Jeff and Ryan [Morris] led this program on the field and off, and many of our other seniors played key roles in the growth and success of the program over these past 3 years. As coaches, we are optimistic that our 2019 senior guys will step up and accept this incredibly important responsibility, and if they do, we will continue to challenge at the top of the Central League and District One lacrosse."

Scott Berkheimer enters his 7th season as Assistant Coach and Defensive Coordinator at Strath Haven High School after coaching at Ridley High School the previous three years. In 2006, he served as an Assistant Coach at Stockton College (University) under the late NJ Lacrosse Pioneer and Coaching Legend Dick Rizk. Scott has coached countless players in the Greater Philadelphia area and has worked with various Philadelphia-based club lacrosse programs including Mesa/Fever, Old School, and Providence Road Lacrosse.

Coach Berkheimer played collegiately at Penn State and Stockton where he was a 3-time All-Conference First-Team selection, a 3-time ECAC-Metro First-Team All-Star, as well as a USILA DIII All-American selection in 2005. He was a member of Ridley's '97 and '98 PSLA State Championship teams and captained their '99 PSLA State Title Runner-Up team.

Scott is a graduate of Penn State University and is completing his Master's of Education at Widener University. He is a Social Studies Teacher at Interboro High School in Prospect Park, PA.

Donald Clemons starts his fourth season with the Strath Haven HS staff following a successful playing career at DeSales University. Don was a 4-year starter on defense (and 2-year team captain) at DeSales. After graduation, he began coaching at Parkland High School, where in 2012 he led the JV squad to a 15-0 record; he also served as a varsity assistant while at Parkland HS.

Cory Dawes joined the Strath Haven coaching staff as an Assistant Coach working with the team's goalies in 2014. A 2-time PA state champion as a player at Ridley, Cory's focus with the Panthers is coaching the team's goalies. Before joining the Haven staff, Cory enjoyed success coaching at the youth level. He is married to Jill and they are parents to Camille.

Coach McGraw is a well-established part of the Strath Haven lacrosse community, having coached with Haven Youth lacrosse for 8 years, our high school program for the past 12 years and is the current head coach of the Strath Haven Middle School boys lacrosse team.   He served as a coach of the Delaware County squad that captured gold at the 2004 Keystone Games and has also coached club lacrosse for Premier Lacrosse Club, USTC Falcons Club and assorted Haven Club teams.
